First BMSB Adult Trap Capture in a Commercial Orchard on April 7, 2011

Two weeks ago, we deployed prototype monitoring traps in commercial orchards in West Virginia and Maryland.  These traps appear to be visually stimulating to foraging BMSB, apparently a trunk-mimicking stimulus.  In addition, they are baited with a known attractant, methyl (2E, 4E, 6Z)-decatrieonate.

The traps are designed to provide information as to presence, abundance, and seasonal activity of BMSB.

Today, we captured our first adult.  The field season has officially begun!
